US President Donald Trump has threatened the European Union (EU) with punitive tariffs over the fine imposed on Google.

Trump criticized the European Commission's decision to fine Google for violating antitrust laws, calling it an "attack on another great American company."

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump warned that if the EU does not revise the fines imposed on Google and Apple, he will be forced to implement "Article 301" to impose punitive tariffs.

The European Commission fined Google $2.95 billion, accusing it of abusing its dominant position in the online advertising sector.

Google responded that it would challenge the decision in court, calling it "flawed" and arguing that it would harm thousands of European businesses.

Lee-Ann Mulholland, Google's vice president, said the company provides services to ad buyers and sellers and that there are many alternatives to its services.

It is recalled that the Commission has imposed record fines on Google in the past, amounting to 4.3 billion euros in 2018, 2.42 billion euros in 2017 and 1.49 billion euros in 2019.
