Trump Remains Steadfast on Greenland Acquisition Despite EU Opposition

Donald Trump is standing firm on his plans for the United States to acquire Greenland, despite opposition from the European Union. In a post on Truth Social, he stated that "now is the time and it will happen" regarding the acquisition of the island.

Trump's post follows a Bloomberg report indicating that EU member states are discussing ways to respond to the American president's threat to impose tariffs, potentially including suspending the trade agreement with the US.

According to EU officials, European Council President António Costa has convened an emergency European Council Summit against the backdrop of Greenland and the threat of tariffs on eight countries, six of which are EU members. The summit is scheduled for January 22nd.

One of the proposals being discussed is the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on American products worth 93 billion euros. The use of the Anti-Coercion Instrument is also being considered, which would allow Europe to impose tariffs and investment restrictions on countries that violate the rules.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reiterated the unwavering commitment of the EU and Britain to support the sovereignty of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.
