US President Donald Trump described Greek-American relations as 'stronger than ever' during the credentials ceremony of the new Greek Ambassador to the US, Antonis Alexandridis.

In his official address, Mr. Trump stated that the friendship between Greece and the USA is 'strong, historic, and based on a common democratic and spiritual heritage,' noting that he looks forward to further strengthening bilateral relations.

Trump referred to Greece's progress towards achieving the NATO target of 5% of GDP for defense spending, noting that Athens is demonstrating 'real leadership' within the Alliance. 'Peace is ensured through strength,' he emphasized.

In the field of energy, he made special reference to exports of American liquefied natural gas and the so-called Vertical Corridor, estimating that the related infrastructure projects will enhance the energy security of the wider region.

He also expressed his appreciation for Greece's abstention during the adoption, by the International Maritime Organization, of the framework for net-zero emissions.

Finally, he referred to the prospects of strengthening cooperation in the shipbuilding industry, including talks on the construction of American frigates in Greece, as well as the expansion of bilateral relations in the fields of trade and investment.
