Tzimitras: Prespa Agreement's Importance Now More Evident Than Ever

Professor Haris Tzimitras emphasized the immense importance of the Prespa Agreement, especially amidst the current international uncertainty. Speaking on the show "Oi Antikanonikoi," Tzimitras, a Professor of International Law and International Relations, Director of the Cyprus Centre of the Oslo Peace Research Institute, and a member of the Scientific Council of the Alexis Tsipras Institute, criticized ND's initial stance on the agreement.
Tzimitras stressed that the Prespa Agreement halted the repeated recognitions of the neighboring country as "Macedonia," and it is now recognized worldwide as "North Macedonia." He also called on ND to explain its actions within the EPP regarding violations of the agreement by the ruling party in North Macedonia.
"Imagine in this more difficult international security situation, with who is a friend and ally no longer so certain, if we also had the Macedonian issue on top of us," he noted, highlighting the pressures the country would face to resolve the issue.
Referring to the Ukrainian issue, Tzimitras stressed the need for a realistic policy based on principles, emphasizing that focusing solely on defense spending undermines social cohesion and creates inequalities.
