Joe Kent: Retaliation Expected After Resignation Over Iran

Former U.S. counterterrorism chief Joe Kent stated he anticipates retaliation following his resignation, stemming from disagreements with Donald Trump's Iran policy.

Joe Kent maintained that he could not serve “with a clear conscience” due to the U.S. military involvement in Iran without Congressional approval. He anticipates potential political repercussions but emphasized he would make the same choice again.

In an interview, he stated he is not concerned about an FBI investigation regarding the leak of classified information, asserting he has not broken the law. He remains cautious, as there have been instances where the federal government has turned against dissenters.

Kent, a special forces veteran, has repeatedly expressed his disagreement with the military operation in Iran, which began in late February in collaboration with Israel.

In his resignation letter, he argued that Iran did not pose an immediate threat to the U.S. and attributed the decision for war to pressure from Israel.

The White House dismissed Kent's positions, calling him “weak on security matters.”
