North Korea: Missile Launch Towards Sea of Japan

North Korea has launched at least one missile towards the Sea of Japan, according to South Korean armed forces. Tokyo reported that it was two ballistic missiles.

The Japanese Coast Guard stated that the missiles appeared to have completed their flight, falling outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone.

This is North Korea's second missile test this month, following a missile launch on January 4. The test comes after Elbridge Colby's visit to Seoul.

Analysts believe that the missile tests aim to improve North Korea's precision strike capabilities and demonstrate strength towards the United States and South Korea. Kim Jong Un has ordered the expansion of missile production ahead of a ruling party congress.
