Bulgaria Strongly Supports Ukraine's EU Path

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stated that Bulgaria is a strong supporter of Ukraine's EU accession. The statement was made during a teleconference with his Ukrainian counterpart, Yulia Svyrydenko.
Zhelyazkov emphasized Bulgaria's readiness to assist Ukraine on its European path by offering experience in the accession process. He also welcomed Ukraine's commitment to reforms, despite geopolitical challenges and Russian aggression.
"Bulgaria firmly believes that Ukraine's future is linked to the EU," Zhelyazkov said, stressing that European integration is a guarantee of prosperity for the region. He also expressed Sofia's support for opening the first package of negotiation chapters and highlighted the importance of Ukraine's Action Plan for National Minorities.
The Prime Minister reiterated Bulgaria's support for Ukraine amidst the war and welcomed efforts towards a sustainable solution, including the commitment of the US government. He stressed that negotiations must be based on justice, sovereignty, and security guarantees.
Furthermore, Zhelyazkov underlined Bulgaria's readiness to participate in Ukraine's post-war recovery, as well as reconstruction and reform efforts. Regional energy security and transport connectivity were also discussed.
At the teleconference of EU leaders, Zhelyazkov stressed that security guarantees should include stable support from European and Euro-Atlantic partners, and that Bulgaria is ready to contribute to achieving a just and lasting peace.
