Brazil: Restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence in elections

Brazil has enacted new rules restricting the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during elections to combat misinformation.
The Vice President of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Nunes Marques, ruled that the use of AI would be subject to restrictions to ensure the integrity of the vote.
The publication or republication of content produced or modified by AI, especially images, voices, or statements of candidates, is prohibited during the 72 hours before the elections and the 24 hours after.
Social media are required to remove content that has already been judged illegal in court, and the use of AI to create sexual content involving candidates is prohibited.
In addition, recommendation systems and chatbots will not be able to express opinions on candidates.
Outside the ban period, the use of AI is permitted with explicit labeling.
The presidential elections in Brazil will be held in October.
