Chile: Kast Supporters Celebrate with Pinochet Portraits

José Antonio Kast, a far-right leader, has been elected president of Chile. His supporters celebrated by holding portraits of Augusto Pinochet.
Kast, 59, received approximately 58% of the votes, while his opponent, Janette Jara, received about 42%. Kast has promised to restore law and order throughout the country.
Thousands of his supporters celebrated across the country, while Jara conceded defeat. Kast will become the most right-wing leader in Latin America since the end of the Pinochet dictatorship in 1990.
At Kast's campaign headquarters in Santiago, thousands of supporters gathered. Some chanted "Pinochet" rhythmically and held portraits of him.
Kast, the son of German immigrants, has pledged to combat crime and deport illegal immigrants. His victory follows a shift to the right in Latin America.
