Hiroshima commemorated the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing with a memorial ceremony at the Peace Memorial Park, including a moment of silence at the exact time of the explosion.

On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 AM, the U.S. forces dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing approximately 140,000 people. Nagasaki followed three days later.

Nihon Hidankyo, a survivors' organization, emphasized the increased nuclear threat and called for a change in attitude from states possessing nuclear weapons.
