Christodoulides and Meloni Agree on Joint Partnership Document

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, and the Prime Minister of Italy, Ms. Giorgia Meloni, met in Rome and expressed their shared desire to strengthen bilateral relations.
They agreed to start discussions on drafting a joint partnership document, aimed at addressing common priorities and strengthening cooperation in various fields.
President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of coordination with Italy in view of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, and referred to cooperation on Energy, Security, Defense, Trade, Education and Culture.
Ms. Meloni expressed her pleasure at the meeting and stressed that Cyprus and Italy share historical relations and a common future, with emphasis on the strategic geographical position of the two countries.
Both leaders agreed on the need to place the Mediterranean at the center of the EU's attention and to strengthen EU relations with the wider Middle East and the Southern Neighborhood.
In addition, issues such as migration, competitiveness, EU enlargement, transatlantic relations, support for Ukraine and the new Multiannual Financial Framework were discussed.
President Christodoulides briefed Prime Minister Meloni on developments in the Cyprus issue.
