Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated his readiness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Andriy Sybiha. Zelenskyy is willing to negotiate thorny issues directly with Vladimir Putin in order to reach an agreement to end the nearly 4-year war between the two countries.

The most sensitive issues in the negotiation for a settlement, such as territorial issues and the fate of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant occupied by Russian troops, have not yet been resolved.

Meanwhile, nearly 2 million casualties have been suffered by the armies of both countries in the war in Ukraine, according to an American research center. Moscow has suffered the heaviest losses with 325,000 deaths.

A report by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine states that 2025 was the 'deadliest' year since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022, with more than 2,500 civilian deaths.
