Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commemorated the country's Independence Day wearing the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt, the vyshyvanka. He laid a wreath in Kyiv's Independence Square, accompanied by his wife and the Prime Minister of Canada.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of a strong Ukraine, capable of living in security and peace. He argued that the war with Russia has strengthened the confidence of Ukrainians, who are determined to defend their freedom.

Zelenskyy condemned Russian attacks on non-military facilities and stated that Ukraine is responding with attacks on Russian fuel depots and military airfields.

In a Facebook post, Zelenskyy stated: "We are building a Ukraine strong and powerful enough to live in security and peace." His statements were accompanied by images of the Ukrainian drone attack on Russian aircraft in early July.

"Ukrainians exist and will continue to exist on this earth. In a hundred years from now, our next generations will stand here and celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day," he said.
