The American news agency Associated Press (AP) is challenging the Israeli military's account of strikes on the Nasser Hospital in Gaza, where five Palestinian journalists, including one of its collaborators, were killed.

On August 25, 22 people were killed by airstrikes on the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. The Israeli military claimed it was targeting a Hamas camera monitoring troop movements.

However, the AP reports that its investigation challenges this account. The roof of the building is commonly used by journalists for live broadcasts. Eyewitnesses reported drone flights 40 minutes before the attack.

An Israeli military official claimed the camera was considered suspicious because it was covered with a towel. In reality, it was journalist Hossam al Masri, a Reuters collaborator, who was killed in the attack.

The AP found no evidence of another camera at the scene and notes that covering cameras is common practice to protect against the elements.

The AP also discovered that Israel struck the same location a second time after the arrival of rescuers and journalists, raising allegations of a "double tap." Mariam Daga, an AP collaborator, was killed in subsequent strikes.

The Israeli military referred to its August 26 statement, according to which an investigation into the incident is underway.
