West Bank: Settler Attacks Follow Smotrich's Statements

Tensions are high in the West Bank following statements by Minister Bezalel Smotrich regarding the fragmentation of the region. Israeli settlers and soldiers carried out attacks, drawing condemnation from the EU and muted reactions from the US.

Smotrich announced a settlement plan in occupied Jerusalem, dividing the West Bank and disconnecting East Jerusalem from cities like Bethlehem and Ramallah. His stated goal is to "bury the idea of a Palestinian state."

The attacks included home invasions, arrests, destruction, and beatings. EU Commissioner Kaja Kallas condemned the decision, while the Palestinian Foreign Ministry spoke of genocide crimes.
