Gaza: Five Al Jazeera Journalists Killed in Israeli Strike
Share on:

Five Al Jazeera employees were killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza, including journalist Anas al-Sharif, who had expressed fears for his life. Mohammad Khoureich, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammad Nofal, and Moamen Alioua were also killed.

The Committee to Protect Journalists had warned of dangers to al-Sharif, accusing the Israeli army of a smear campaign. The Israeli Army claimed al-Sharif was a 'terrorist' and Hamas leader responsible for rocket attacks. Al Jazeera called the action a 'targeted assassination'.

The Hamas government spoke of a 'premeditated' assassination, stressing that the journalists were hit near al-Shifa hospital, and called it a 'war crime'. Al-Sharif had expressed fears for his life due to his coverage of Israeli operations.

Since the start of the conflict in 2023, at least 186 journalists have been killed in Gaza. Israel had closed Al Jazeera in the country in May 2024.
