Guterres Urges Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has made an urgent appeal for a ceasefire in Gaza and unimpeded humanitarian access.

Speaking to UN correspondents, he warned that the suffering of Palestinians cannot be ignored, acknowledging that the conflict between Israel and Iran has monopolized international media attention.

The Secretary-General described the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as worse than ever, stressing that Israel, as the occupying power, is obliged under international law to accept and facilitate the provision of humanitarian assistance.

He called on member states to uphold the UN Charter, emphasizing that the only viable path is the two-state solution.
