US: $30 Million to Gaza Humanitarian Fund Amid Criticism

The US announced yesterday that it would allocate $30 million to the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF). This move comes despite strong criticism and concerns about the fund's operations.

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated that the funding has been approved and called on other countries to support the GHF as well. The GHF began operating in Gaza in late May, following a blockade imposed by Israel in early March.

According to Pigott, the GHF has already distributed approximately 46 million meals. However, the UN and other humanitarian organizations have expressed concerns about the GHF's methods and neutrality, refusing to cooperate with it.

The Ministry of Health of the Palestinian enclave has reported that approximately 550 Palestinians have been killed near aid distribution centers since late May.

John Akrie, interim executive director of the GHF, welcomed the US funding.
