Iraq: Tankers Attacked – Sailor Dead, Search Ongoing

A sailor has died and a search is underway for missing persons following an attack on two tankers in Iraqi territorial waters. The tankers had loaded Iraqi oil.
Iraqi state television, citing the director of the Iraqi Port Authority, Farhan al-Fartousi, reported that the attack took place off the southern part of the country. Al-Ikhbariya television network showed images of a ship with thick smoke and flames.
According to Ikhbariya, 38 sailors were rescued and the search continues for missing persons.
Earlier, Mr. Fartousi told Reuters that the two ships are on fire.
