Cybersecurity monitoring organization Netblocks announced a "very slight" resumption of internet activity in Iran after a 200-hour shutdown linked to mass protests against the government.

"Metrics show a very slight increase in internet connectivity in Iran this morning, after the 200-hour mark," the organization explained via X shortly before 05:00.

However, "overall connectivity remains around 2% of normal levels and there is no indication of widespread restoration," it added.

According to human rights organizations, the internet shutdown imposed on January 8 was intended to conceal the true extent of the crackdown. At least 3,428 people have been killed since the start of mass mobilizations, initially over the cost of living, according to the NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), based in Norway.
