Iran: Preparing for Potential US Attack – Khamenei's Instructions

The New York Times reveals Iran's plans to counter a potential military attack by the United States, as tensions in the Middle East escalate. The analysis is based on assessments from officials and security experts.

According to the report, since early January, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has entrusted Ali Larijani, a top national security official, with leading the country. Larijani, former commander of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, now oversees critical state functions.

Larijani is responsible for suppressing recent protests, collaborating with Russia and regional actors such as Qatar and Oman, overseeing nuclear negotiations with Washington, and drawing up plans to manage the country in the event of a war with the US.

Khamenei has instructed Larijani and other associates to ensure the survival of the Islamic Republic, even from assassination attempts on leaders. Four levels of succession have been defined for each military and government position. Additionally, Iran is reportedly positioning ballistic missile launchers along its western borders and on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf.

In the event of war, special police forces and the Basij militia will be deployed to prevent internal unrest.

The Iranian leadership is also considering scenarios for political survival, including who would manage the country if Khamenei and other officials are killed. The list of potential successors includes Larijani, General Ghalibaf, and former President Hassan Rouhani.
