Israel: Finance Minister Plans West Bank Annexation Maps

Israel's far-right Finance Minister announced plans to create maps for the annexation of territories in the occupied West Bank, land where Palestinians hope to establish their state. It remains unclear whether Bezalel Smotrich has the support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

At a press conference in Jerusalem, Smotrich stood before a map implying the annexation of most of the West Bank, excluding six major Palestinian cities, including Ramallah and Nablus. The Minister stated he wants Israeli sovereignty over “the maximum territory and the least (Palestinian) population,” urging Netanyahu to accept the map.

Smotrich, himself a settler, has advocated for the annexation of the West Bank for years, which Israel occupied in 1967. Netanyahu's office has not commented. Any actions towards this goal would likely be condemned by Arab and Western countries.
