Cyprus and Palestine: Parallel Paths of Occupation
Share on:

Two countries, Cyprus and Palestine, share the experience of occupation and the consequences of ethnic cleansing. The events in Gaza and the West Bank reflect the reality of the occupying power.

In Cyprus, the Turkish invasion of 1974 led to the occupation of territories for nearly 51 years, leaving open wounds with dead and missing people. The occupying power is consolidating the occupation data through the creation of an illegal entity and the change of population with the arrival of settlers.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, everything is being destroyed, with civilian casualties, including children. Cypriots and Palestinians, as neighboring peoples under occupation, can understand each other and express solidarity.

Cyprus also needs support to address the ongoing occupation. Just as we support freedom in Palestine, we must demand the liberation of Kyrenia, Morphou, Karpasia, Famagusta and Kythrea.

Cypriots face Turkey, while Palestinians face Israelis. The occupation of territories is the common point of reference and the driving force for the removal of occupation data.

The Israeli ambassador to Cyprus, Oren Anolik, referred to anti-Semitic rhetoric in Cyprus, an accusation used as an excuse for Israel's actions against the Palestinians. Humanity is watching the developments in Gaza.
