Lebanon: Iranian Missile Explodes – Target Likely Outside Lebanon

A serious security incident occurred in Lebanon when an Iranian-made ballistic missile exploded at high altitude over areas north of Beirut. According to the Lebanese army, the debris belongs to a «Qadr-110» type missile of Iranian origin, 16 meters long with a range of 2,000 kilometers.
The army announced that the missile exploded at high altitude, possibly due to a technical malfunction or interception, suggesting that its target was likely outside Lebanese territory. Importantly, Lebanon does not have interception systems, reinforcing scenarios of external intervention.
According to the French Agency, security sources estimate that the interception may have been carried out by a warship operating in the Eastern Mediterranean. Other sources claim that a possible target was Cyprus, specifically a British military base. The incident comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with the war between Iran, the US and Israel ongoing.
The Israeli army reported that the missile fell over Beirut. The fall of debris in residential areas caused concern.
