Tension prevails at Sinai Monastery as monks expelled for attempting a coup are trying to re-enter. Archbishop of Sinai Damian has requested the intervention of the Egyptian authorities, denouncing threats against his life.

Reportedly, the mutinous monks are calling on supporters and trying to enter the monastery, while the Egyptian police have not intervened. Officials are said to have advised the Archbishop to allow the monks to return, causing concern.

The Patriarchate of Jerusalem issued a statement that does not condemn the coup, seeking control of the Monastery. Archbishop Damian appealed to the governments of Greece and Egypt for assistance, stating that his life is in danger.
