UN Warns of Massive Reconstruction Task in Gaza

The UN's humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, visited the Gaza Strip and emphasized the massive reconstruction task required. He is the first UN official to visit the area after the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
Fletcher stressed the need to provide basic services and food to the residents of Gaza, which has been devastated by the war. Much of the Palestinian enclave has been severely damaged by Israeli military operations, launched in response to the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
Fletcher announced a 60-day plan to increase food supply, distribute one million meals a day, rebuild the health sector, and provide winter accommodation. Humanitarian organizations are calling for the opening of all border crossings, including Rafah, for the entry of aid.
