Impact of Attack on 'South Pars' Gas Field

The conflict in the Middle East is escalating with Israel's attack on Iranian facilities at the South Pars gas field, part of the world's largest gas field. Iran shares the field with Qatar, which calls its section North Dome.
The field contains approximately 1,800 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas, enough to meet global needs for 13 years, according to Reuters. Oil prices have already risen due to the explosion and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's natural gas production from South Pars is its largest source of domestic energy supply. Any impact will affect its ability to generate electricity.
Arab countries condemned the attacks. The United Arab Emirates called them a "serious escalation" and Qatar a "dangerous and irresponsible step."
Iran responded with attacks on energy facilities in the region, causing damage to Qatar's energy hub, the industrial city of Ras Laffan, and refineries in Saudi Arabia.
US President Donald Trump warned Iran that he would "massively blow up" the gas field if it continued attacks. Israeli officials stated that the attack on South Pars was coordinated with the US.
