Palestinian Ambassador Calls for Pressure on Israel

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Cyprus, Abdalla Attari, called on Tuesday for pressure to be exerted on Israel to end military operations in Gaza. The appeal was made during a press conference, on the occasion of a symbolic protest and hunger strike from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Mr. Attari described the situation in Gaza as unbearable, denouncing the international community for its silence. He mentioned 59,000 dead and 140,000 injured in Gaza, while according to UNICEF, over 17,000 children have been killed.
The Palestinian ambassador also referred to plans for a "Greater Israel" and the economic war against the Palestinian Authority, with Israel holding 2.3 billion euros from the Palestinian people's money.
Regarding Cyprus' potential contribution, Mr. Attari acknowledged Cyprus' readiness to help but highlighted the difficulties in providing assistance on the ground in Gaza. A gathering of support for the people of Gaza took place outside the embassy.
During President Christodoulides' visit to Ramallah, a proposal was made to place the Palestinian issue on the priorities of the Cypriot presidency of the European Council.
