Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis proposed a 5-point plan to the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council to address the crisis in the Middle East.

Upon his arrival at the Council, Mr. Gerapetritis described the situation in the region as "extremely volatile and complex," emphasizing the serious impact on global security.

He referred to the terrorist attack on the Holy Church of Prophet Elias in Damascus, highlighting the intensity and asymmetry of the threat.

The 5-point plan includes:

  • Political solution through self-restraint and de-escalation.
  • Protection of civilians and freedom of navigation.
  • Active participation of the EU in current processes.
  • Strengthening humanitarian aid to Gaza.
  • Strengthening the Palestinian Authority.

Mr. Gerapetritis also stressed the connection of issues in the Middle East with Syria and Libya, where increased migration flows are observed, emphasizing the need to control irregular migration flows and respect International Law.
