Sudan: Paramilitaries Announce Capture of El Fasher

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan have announced the capture of the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. The announcement was made via their Telegram channel.

The Sudanese army has not issued a statement, while the Popular Resistance Committee has denied the capture of the general staff headquarters.

El Fasher has become a key front in the conflict between the army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitaries of General Mohamed Daglo.

Experts warn of the risk of Sudan's fragmentation, despite international efforts for a ceasefire. Since April 2023, tens of thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced.

The UN describes the crisis in Sudan as the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, with 260,000 civilians facing severe shortages.
