Fourteen of the fifteen members of the UN Security Council, excluding the US, issued a joint statement condemning the famine in Gaza as a 'man-made crisis'.

The Security Council members are calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the lifting of all restrictions on the provision of humanitarian aid, including the opening of all land routes.

The Deputy Representative of Guyana to the UN, Trisala Perso, expressed concerns about the findings of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report and stressed that the famine is expected to expand.

Member states stressed that at least 41,000 children are at increased risk of malnutrition and that the use of starvation as a weapon of war is prohibited by international humanitarian law.

Israel is called upon to reverse its decision to further expand its military operation in Gaza.
