Voridis Meets with Turkey and Bulgaria on Migration

Minister of Migration and Asylum, Makis Voridis, participated in a trilateral meeting with the Ministers of Interior of Turkey and Bulgaria in Sofia, focusing on the management of migration flows.
According to Mr. Voridis, cooperation with Turkey has led to a 30% decrease in arrivals at land borders and a 38% decrease in the Aegean islands compared to 2024. He emphasized that border control now belongs to the states and not to smuggling rings.
The Minister of Migration and Asylum stressed the need for effective return policies, clearly distinguishing between beneficiaries of international protection and irregular migrants. He also mentioned the increased pressure of migration flows through Libya.
Mr. Voridis also had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Interior of Bulgaria, Daniel Mitov, and spoke with his Turkish counterpart, Ali Yerlikaya. The next trilateral meeting is scheduled to take place in Athens in November.
