Syria: Iraqis Repatriated from Al Hol Camp

More than 800 Iraqis have left the Al Hol camp in northeastern Syria, according to the camp's director, Jihan Hannan.
Since the beginning of the year, approximately 10,000 Iraqis have been repatriated from the camp, which houses a total of 27,000 people, including Syrians and individuals from 42 nationalities.
Umm Mahmoud, a 60-year-old Iraqi woman, described the difficult living conditions in the camp, while expressing her relief at leaving.
While many Western countries have refused to repatriate their citizens, Iraq has accelerated the procedures and is calling on other countries to follow suit.
Seihmus Ahmed, a Kurdish official, stated that the goal is to empty the camps in northeastern Syria by the end of the year.
The Islamic State seized territory in Syria and Iraq in 2014 but was defeated in Syria in 2019. Jihadist cells remain in the area.
