Thousands of Hezbollah supporters commemorated the anniversary of the assassination of the organization's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in Beirut. He was killed a year ago by Israel. His portrait was projected onto a landmark in the city, despite objections from authorities.

The photo of Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli raid on September 27th, was projected onto Raouche Rock (Pigeon Rocks), while excerpts of his speeches were broadcast. The Shiite organization of Lebanon is planning a series of memorial events.

Hassan Nasrallah was killed in the southern suburbs of Beirut. His successor, Hashem Safieddine, was killed in another raid in early October.

Hezbollah's action sparked reactions and controversy. A Lebanese official stated that Hezbollah had received permission for the rally, but not to illuminate the rock. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam ordered the arrest of those responsible.
