Christodoulides: EU Works on Gaza Aid, Cyprus Ready to Assist

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated in Brussels that the EU is working to ensure the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He emphasized Cyprus' readiness to play a role in this effort, given its relations with Israel.
President Christodoulides mentioned that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel was achieved due to American intervention. He also reiterated the need for the EU to have a leading role in the region, which will be pursued during the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.
Regarding migration, the President presented the new RoC plan for the voluntary repatriation of Syrians, which allows families to return to Syria with financial assistance.
Regarding EU defense and security, President Christodoulides expressed satisfaction that member states understand that investments should help the European defense industry. Cyprus has completed the internal dialogue to utilize the new EU financial instruments.
Finally, President Christodoulides raised the issue of Cyprus' accession to Schengen within 2026.
