Foreign Ministry Alerted to Israeli Settler Encroachment on Jericho Monastery

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is on alert following reports of encroachment on land belonging to the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Abbé Gerasimos of Jordan in Jericho by Israeli settlers. A meeting was held to address the issue.

The monastery, located north of the Dead Sea in the West Bank, was built in the 5th century by Saint Gerasimos. Preserving the property of Greek Orthodox monasteries is of crucial importance to Athens.

The Jericho area is under pressure from Israeli settlers, with at least five new outposts established, often preceding land encroachments.
