A man in Washington is facing felony charges after an incident in which he threw a sandwich at a police officer.

Sean Charles Dan, 32, allegedly approached federal police officers, verbally abused them, and then threw a sandwich at them, hitting an officer in the chest. The incident took place on 14th Street in Northwest Washington.

According to police, Dan called the officers "fascists" and told them to leave the city. After being arrested, he reportedly confessed to the act.

District of Columbia Attorney Janine Piro defended the decision to file felony charges, stating that assaulting a police officer is not a joke.

The incident occurred after statements by Donald Trump regarding crime in Washington. Data indicates that violence in the city is at its lowest level in the last three decades.
