Wyoming Bans Abortions with No Rape or Incest Exceptions

The governor of Wyoming has signed a bill banning abortions, even in cases of rape or incest. The law only permits abortions in cases of medical emergency where the mother's life is at risk.
According to the bill, abortions are only allowed if a fetal heartbeat is not detected. A fetal heartbeat is typically detected around six weeks of gestation.
Anyone who violates the law faces a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine of up to $10,000.
Julie Burkhart, president of Wellspring Health Access, the state's only abortion clinic, stated that the ban is a blow to the constitutional freedoms of Wyoming residents.
Wyoming is the fifth U.S. state to ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected.
