A court in Oregon has blocked the Trump administration's deployment of the National Guard, escalating the legal dispute between states and the federal government.

Judge Karin Immergut temporarily prohibited the deployment of National Guard units under federal control, ruling that the government violated a previous order by sending members of the California National Guard to Portland and approving the mobilization of soldiers from Texas.

Immergut had ruled that there was no threat of insurrection or need for military intervention, emphasizing that Oregon's security forces can manage the protests. The new order is valid for 14 days, while Washington has appealed.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek accused Washington of attempting to circumvent judicial authority, while California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the return of the California National Guard.

Officials from Oregon, California, and Illinois argue that Trump is using the National Guard as a political tool.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield stated that the president cannot bypass court orders.

The case reignites the question of the conditions under which the US president can federalize National Guard forces.
