Florida: Death Row Inmate Executed for 1990 Murder

Chadwick Willacy, 58, was executed by lethal injection in Florida for the 1990 murder of his neighbor. The execution took place at 6:15 PM local time.

Willacy was convicted of murdering Marlis Sader, 56, whom he killed during a burglary at her home. This is the eighth execution in the U.S. this year and the fifth in Florida.

In 2023, there were 47 executions in the U.S., more than double the average of the last decade. Most executions are carried out using lethal injection.

The death penalty has been abolished in 23 U.S. states, while a moratorium is in effect in three others.
