The Republican-controlled US Senate rejected a Democratic proposal to prevent President Donald Trump from ordering new uses of military force against Iran without Congressional approval.

The decision comes hours after President Trump stated he would consider new bombings in the Islamic Republic.

Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, the resolution's sponsor, seeks to reaffirm Congress's power to declare war.

Members of Congress are seeking information about the US bombings in Iran last weekend, as well as uranium stockpiles.
