US unemployment rose to 4.2% in July, according to official figures, while job creation declined. Former President Donald Trump fired Erika McEntarfer, Commissioner of Labor Statistics, appointed by Joe Biden, accusing her of falsifying data.

Job creation figures for May and June were revised downwards, reaching their lowest levels since the Covid-19 pandemic. Revisions indicate a loss of 258,000 jobs in the last two months.

Heather Long, an economist at Navy Federal Credit Union, stated that the labor market is deteriorating rapidly. Trump, in a post, claimed the economy is “soaring” and called on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates.

Trump accused McEntarfer of “faking the jobs numbers before the election.” He ordered her immediate dismissal and replacement with someone “more capable and qualified.”
