US: Air Traffic Controllers Take Temporary Jobs Amid Pay Freeze

Hundreds of air traffic controllers in the US are resorting to temporary jobs as they face being unpaid on Tuesday. A union official stated on Tuesday that this is placing further strain on the already pressured air safety system.

According to Reuters, the President of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, Nick Daniels, told reporters at Reagan Washington Airport that the number of controllers seeking temporary work will increase. "It will quickly become 1,000," he said, calling on the government to end the stalemate.

"We want the [government] shutdown to stop today… by whatever means that is achieved," added Mr. Daniels.
