US: Alarm Over Order to Gather Top Military Officers

Turmoil has arisen in the American military following an order from US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for hundreds of generals and admirals to gather at a base in Virginia next week, without a stated reason.
The directive was sent to nearly all top military commanders worldwide, according to the Washington Post. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that Hegseth will address the senior military leaders.
There are approximately 800 generals and admirals in the United States and other countries. The order applies to senior officers with the rank of brigadier general or higher serving in administrative positions.
No one remembers a similar order from a Secretary of Defense, raising security concerns. The Department of Defense has secure video conferencing technology, but the order for physical presence is considered unusual.
The orders come as Hegseth has ordered changes at the Pentagon, including reducing the number of general officers and renaming the Department of Defense to the Department of War.
