Florida College to Erect Statue of Charlie Kirk

New College of Florida has announced the erection of a statue of Charlie Kirk, a right-wing figure who was murdered on September 10th. This move follows a change in the college's administration, which now has a conservative direction.
The statue, which is privately funded, will honor Kirk's legacy and work. Kirk was the co-founder of the conservative organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and an associate of former US President Donald Trump.
The decision has sparked reactions, as Kirk has been accused of transphobic, racist, and misogynistic views. There have also been reports of attempts to silence progressive voices who oppose his ideas.
Since 2023, New College has been transformed into a conservative institution, resulting in resignations of faculty and student transfers. Proposals to erect statues of Kirk have also been made in other states.
