Authorities in Long Island have solved the 1984 rape and murder of 16-year-old Teresa Fusco, thanks to a straw and DNA testing.

Richard Bilodeau, 63, a former coffee shop owner, has been arrested as the perpetrator. Teresa Fusco's body was found on December 5, 1984, 20 days after she disappeared near an ice rink in Lynbrook.

The 16-year-old had been raped, beaten, and strangled. Bilodeau's arrest was made possible after police obtained his DNA from a straw he discarded in a trash can.

In 2003, three other men were convicted of the crime but were later acquitted after DNA testing and received a $43 million settlement.

Teresa Fusco's father, Thomas Fusco, stated that the arrest of the perpetrator brings relief to his family.
