The investigation is based on statements made by Walz and Frey regarding the deployment of thousands of ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Minneapolis and its suburbs.

The Trump administration had sent approximately 3,000 federal agents to Minnesota, drawing criticism from local authorities and citizens.

Mayor Jacob Frey demanded ICE leave, while Governor Tim Walz expressed outrage and requested local authorities investigate the matter.
