Trump Proposes Census Excluding "Irregular" Immigrants

Donald Trump has asked his government to conduct a census excluding "individuals who are irregularly present" in the U.S. This move could affect the allocation of seats in Congress.
Trump stated on the Truth Social platform that the census would be based on current data and figures, excluding those illegally in the country. The Pew Research Center estimates that removing undocumented immigrants could deprive states like California of a seat in Congress.
The U.S. Constitution mandates a census every 10 years, counting all people in each state, including undocumented immigrants. The next census is expected in 2030, but Trump did not mention a date.
Trump's proposal comes amid Republican efforts to redraw electoral districts to their advantage. He mentioned that Republicans have earned the right to win "five more seats" in the November 2026 midterm elections.
