Zohran Mamdani to be Sworn in as NYC Mayor on Quran

Zohran Mamdani will be the first New York City mayor to be sworn in on the Quran, taking office at midnight on January 1st. He will use three copies of the Islamic holy book, including one belonging to his grandfather and one belonging to historian Arturo Schomburg.
The swearing-in will take place in two ceremonies: a private one in the abandoned Old City Hall subway station, where State Attorney General Letitia James will swear him in, and a public one on the steps of City Hall, where Senator Bernie Sanders will administer the oath.
Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, stated that the dream of every Muslim is to be treated like any other New Yorker. Previous mayors, such as Eric Adams and Bill de Blasio, had been sworn in on Bibles with personal and historical significance.
