Oklahoma: Shooting in Yard Kills Woman 800 Meters Away

Authorities in Oklahoma have charged a man with manslaughter after a woman was killed by a stray bullet while he was target shooting in his yard. Cody Adams, 33, was testing a gun he received as a Christmas gift when the incident occurred.
Sandra Phelps was sitting on her porch, approximately 800 meters away, when she was struck by a bullet. Witnesses reported that Phelps commented on the sound of gunshots, said "ouch," and then collapsed. The bullet struck her right arm and entered her chest cavity. She was pronounced dead 20 minutes later.
Adams told authorities he was shooting at a soda can in his yard with a .45-caliber Glock. He was initially jailed but later released on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 25.
He faces charges of first-degree manslaughter and reckless use of a firearm.
